Suzuki recalls over 46,000 Grand Vitara and XL-7 SUVs
Suzuki is recalling 2006 model year Grand Vitara and 2005-2006 XL-7 SUVs over potentially defective hydraulic power assist steering pump.
According to NHTSA the tension adjuster for the drive belt that operates the power steering pump and air conditioner compressor has an ouher portion that is made of plastic, which can deteriorate over time. Broken pieces of the pulley can get caught in the drive belt to come off and increase the risk of crash because of the driver needing increased effort to steer the vehicle.
46549 potentially affected cars will be recalled and dealers will replace the power steering pump drive belt tension adjuster pulley free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin next week, for more details Suzuki owners may call at 1-800-934-0934.
