SEMA 2010: Bill Caswell Continues The Dream
As Ian reported on in June, Bill Caswell captured the interest of everyone who has ever dreamed of racing against the pros with what they have in their garage. You see, Bill Caswell showed up at a WRC event with a $500 Craiglist 1991 BMW 318i that he bought only one week prior and with a straight face told race organizers that he intended to compete against cars with an avergage value a thousands times that of his own. And with no crew. Want to read more about that? This story on Jalopnik fills in the rest.
I met Bill at 9:30 on Friday morning and was immediately worried when he seemed like another one of my racing buddies and told me he intended to move about 30 minutes away from me here in Southern California. I need to stay away from this guy and resist his influence at all costs. He’s bad for me. Really bad.
Caswell was in the Miller Electric booth busily fabricating the BMW E3 he will use to square off against the Baja 1000 next week. Major work was underway on the rollcage, Billstein suspension and subframe. His co-driver will be none other than Cameron Adams, driver of the Rothmans 1984 Porsche 911 SC RS rally car (pictured below) and Principal of Dirty 911 Design.
