It all started last week when Mini USA president Jim McDowell challenged Porsche to a race at the Road Atlanta. The race was suppose to be a between Mini Cooper S and Porsche 911 Carrera S.

Porsche responded saying that they don’t race for fame, stunts or publicity, and welcomed Mini to Sebring, Le Mans, Daytona or any other sanctioned race where there is more at stake than T-shirts and valet parking spaces.

Mini couldn’t just cancel the marketing campaign(what else can you call this) and re-challenged Porsche. Porsche won’t be participating, but Mini still has plans for the race. They already have the 911, just need a driver. We’ll see on Monday how it goes.

Now something has happened that very likely was not part of Mini’s marketing campaign. Hyundai has released a video where they challenge Mini to a race at Road Atlanta in July. Hyundai Genesis Coupe vs. Mini Cooper S.

Mini wanted a race and here we have an automaker who is ready for the challenge, so they better accept this one!
