As we reported previously, Bugatti has developed the pinnacle hypercar in what they’ve dubbed the Super Sport.

Bugatti sent its official test driver Pierre Henri Raphanel to Volkswagen’s Ehra-Lessian high-speed track with the first Super Sports sample to determine just what it was capable of. With officials of the Guinness Book of World Records and German Technical Inspection Agency (TÜV) present, Raphanel ran laps around the track. With output increased from 1,001 horsepower to 1,200 horsepower, torque bulging to 1,106 pound-feet and a revised aerodynamic package, Raphanel maintained runs of 265.9 and 269.8 mph for an average speed of 267.81 mph and a brand new world record for any production vehicle.
The first five production Super Sports will boast the exact same black and orange finish as the record holder and all production designs will be internally limited to 257.9 mph to ensure tire safety. The Veyron Super Sport will be publicly revealed for the first time in Moneterey, California at the 2010 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance later this summer.
